Support in starting up a project around the shrimp experience in the Nieuwpoort fish market
Result
A briefing for the project and support in the selection and start-up process
The question
Nieuwpoort is a city and seaside resort on the Flemish coast. The urban fish market and fishing port are an important trading place and tourist attraction. Fishing has been associated with the city for many centuries. The sea bass and the grey North Sea shrimp in particular are characteristic of Nieuwpoort.
The fish market is located on a busy connecting route between Nieuwpoort-Bad and the city. Visitors who follow this promenade pass a corridor that runs straight through the fish market and where large glass windows provide a view of the processing halls. This offers opportunities for additional experience and storytelling and a transition to a Narrative Fishermen’s Gallery (working name).
The city of Nieuwpoort wanted to enhance the experience of fishing. In doing so, the city focuses on creating a total experience in which you can experience the story of the shrimp (and sea bass) from the sea to the shore and onto the plate. The city of Nieuwpoort sought support in drawing up a briefing that can be used in a formal specification with which a request can be made to scenographers. In addition, the city asked for input on the start-up of the project.
Our approach
Based on the wishes of the City of Nieuwpoort and various external sources (desk research), we have drawn up a briefing in which the project has been given a clear framework. It also contains frameworks for the scenographers to base their proposal on and handles for selection criteria. We then carried out a short market survey to test whether suppliers were interested in submitting a tender. We have contributed to the selection procedure in the context of the tender. Finally, we were involved in the initial consultation.
The result
In Q4 2024, the corridor will feature a new experience, expressing the stories of shrimp fishing.
