South Holland is the third largest province in the Netherlands in terms of overnight stays. With popular destinations such as the windmillens of Kinderdijk, spring garden Keukenhof, historic cities (Gouda, Dordrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam, etc.), beach destinations (Goeree-Overflakkee, Scheveningen, Noordwijk, etc.) and unique nature (Biesbosch, National Park Hollandse Duinen, the Delta waters, etc. .) the area is diverse.
The number of visitors is expected to increase further in the near future. This offers (economic) opportunities for the whole of South Holland, but also creates challenges. The Province of South Holland has a policy goal that the inhabitants benefit more from tourism. There is a focus on balanced tourism, in which tourism is seen as a means to support social challenges.
The Province of South Holland needed extra support in the Tourism team and commissioned DestinatieX to fulfill this role for a year (part-time). During this period we worked on an agenda for data and monitoring, tourism policy making, tourism as part of spatial planning, regenerative tourism and various issues related to tourism in balance.
